Il progetto STEP (Sudan Tropical Exchange Project) è un Transnational Project organizzato da MedSIN Sudan in collaborazione con SISM-Italy e IFMSA-Netherlands.
È incentrato sul tema delle Malattie Tropicali, ed è costituito da:
1) Programma Scientifico;
2) Missione Medica;
3) Social Program;
Il Programma Scientifico ha come scopo l’approfondimento delle caratteristiche patologiche e cliniche delle malattie tropicali ed è svolto da medici e studenti e consiste in:

Esercitazioni

Casi clinici dal vivo
-
Interventi e attività di laboratorio
Queste attività permetteranno agli studenti di approfondire le caratteristiche delle malattie tropicali endemiche in Sudan e in altre parti dell’Africa, tra cui: Malaria, TBC, Leishmaniosi, Schistosomiasi, Febbre Tifoide, Echinococcosi. Febbre Reumatica, Micetoma
La durata del Programma Scientifico è di 3 settimane e si svolge a Karthoum, capitale del Sudan e sede dei più rinomati centri di ricerca sulle NTD (Neglected Tropical Diseases).
L’area principale di lavoro è la Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia presso l’Università di Khartoum, la più grande e antica facoltà di medicina del paese. In più il MedSIN Sudan collabora con l’Istituto di malattie endemiche dell’ospedale universitario Soba, ospedale universitario di Khartoum e Omdurman.
Dal 2013 sono stati organizzati dei workshop, che si svolgeranno durante il Programma Scientifico. I temi affrontati possono variare fra: Lingua Araba, Global Health, Gestione dei casi di emergenza e salute della madre e del bambino.
Una quarta settimana è dedicata alla Missione Medica in una zona rurale: vengono forniti gratuitamente diagnosi, ricerca, trattamento ed Educazione Sanitaria. Gli studenti faranno parte della squadra della missione e gestiranno le cliniche, i laboratori e la parte di Educazione Sanitaria per la durata di 5 giorni.
Questa missione è un’esperienza davvero unica e darà agli studenti un’idea delle possibilità e dei limiti che comporta il lavoro in una zona tropicale, con risorse e strutture carenti.
Durante queste settimane si svolge anche il Social Program, opportunità unica per conoscere la cultura sudanese e visitare luoghi di interesse intorno a Khartoum.
Agli studenti che hanno partecipato al progetto nell’estate 2015 è stata offerta la possibilità di partecipare al post-STEP tour, un tour organizzato dai ragazzi sudanesi per permettere agli studenti di visitare altre aree del Paese (Port Sudan, Kassala, ecc..); la partecipazione al post-STEP tour richiede un’ulteriore quota di 60 euro e avrà luogo dall’1 al 6 settembre.
Quest’anno il progetto si svolgerà dall’1 al 31 agosto, e il termine dell’iscrizione è il 10 maggio.
